Dedication to Drosophila Melanogaster

The common fruit fly flew fast into focus
Fantastic findings foreshadowed
discoveries which woke us  
From a scientific slumber
Under the microscope we found fragments of ourselves
Furtively fastened to the life threads of a fruit fly
 flew into the scene like a little ambassador
Of genetics, revealing the imbedded code of our molecular makeup
Bound up in the significance of our lives is a little guy
Drosophila Melanogaster, the common fruit fly
